Indian Railway has decided to change its passenger trains and reintroduce them as express trains. Apart from passenger trains running more 200 kilometers daily, Local MEMU and DEMU trains too would be turned into express trains. As was informed by the sources, Indian Railways is planning to change over 500 trains into express trains.
The move is believed to be in line with Covid, while several sources quote this change to be of permanent nature. Indian Railways has asked Zonal Railways to make a decision on this matter in two days. When Passenger trains are changed into Express trains, the ticket rates would be increased. Several stations too would be omitted by the Railways in this process. Passenger trains are considered to be not profitable for Indian Railways.
