Kerala’s much awaited Thrissur Pooram festival is just a month ahead and the preparations for the mega festival is in full swing. Thrissur Pooram is incomplete without fireworks and hence the central government agency Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) has granted permission to conduct fireworks on Friday.
This year, Thrissur Pooram will be celebrated on May 10. The grand fireworks will be carried out in the wee hours of May 11. Prior to that, the sample fireworks will be conducted on May 8.
Usually the pooram committee gets permission a day before the festival. However, this time, they received nod earlier. The development came soon after the district authority gave permission for fireworks.
The committee can use firecrackers like ‘kuzhiminnal’, ‘malapadakkam’, and ‘amittu’, according to reports. Last year, people were barred from entering the premises of Thekinkaadu maidanam in Thrissur owing to COVID-19 protocols. This year, as the cases have declined to an extent, the pooram will be celebrated with great pomp and pleasure.
