Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday conferred an honorary doctorate to music maestro Ilaiyaraaja during the 36th Convocation Ceremony of Gandhigram Rural Institute in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul. During the event, Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi were also present.
The Prime Minister also awarded degrees to a total of 2,314 people, including students.

PM Modi arrived in Tamil Nadu earlier in the day and was welcomed by CM Stalin at Madurai Airport. Upon his arrival, the chief minister gifted an English translation of Ponniyin Selvan novel to PM Modi.
“My message to the youth graduating today is that you’re the pillar of new India. You have the responsibility to lead India,” Modi encouraged youth at the convocation ceremony.
