Central Govt. has decided to make Polytechnics under the scheme of Skill Development initiative. Right now, polytechnics are functioning under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). It must be added that earlier, central govt. had shifted architecture too from MHRD to the scheme of Skill Development. It was during the meeting of Central Advisory Board of Education took place in Delhi, which the decision was taken. The movement is mainly meant for equipping polytechnic students to face the challenges present in the real industrial world.
Right now there are more than 23,000 polytechnics functioning in the country. Well, there are a total of 61 polytechnics presently functioning in Kerala.
