Protest against the awarding of the ONV Literary Award to Tamil poet and lyricist Vairamuthu by the famous poet and lyricist ONV Kurup Vairamuthu, who has been accused by several women of Me Too, has been nominated for the award. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is the patron of the ONV Cultural Academy. Adoor Gopalakrishnan is the chairman. The ONV Literary Award has been given since 2017. Although the ONV Award recognizes outstanding literary contributions in various Indian languages, this is the first time that a non – Malayalam literary genius has been awarded. Poet Sugathakumari was the recipient of the first prize. MT Vasudevan Nair, Akkitham, Dr.M. And Lilavati are the recipients of the award in subsequent years.
Most of the 7,000 poems written by Vairamuthu during his forty years of film career live on in the minds of Malayalees. Vairamuthu has been in the field of poetry and film music for a long time and has achieved great things. Apart from poetry, some of his novels have also been written by him. Apart from Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, he is also a recipient of many awards. The judging committee said that the ONV award should be given to the writer who is most in tune with the mind of the Malayalee.
