Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar will be posthumously conferred the Basavashree award 2021 on May 3. The award is given by the Basava Kendra of Murugha Mutt at Chitradurga when Basaveshwara Jayanthi is observed.
Puneeth’s wife Ashwini will receive the award from Pontiff of Murugha Mutt Dr Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru. The Pontiff will be presenting the award to Ashwini in presence of former CM Siddaramaiah, District Minister BC Patil, cine actors Shivarajkumar, Raghavendra Rajkumar at the Anubhava Mantapa in the city.
The award includes a Rs 5 lakh cash and a memento. The award honours people for services to society in their respective fields by following the principles of Lord Basaveshwar.
Puneeth Rajkumar was the first Indian actor whose 24 movies completed 100 days run in theaters. He was involved in philanthropy with his mother at the Shakti Dhama ashram in Mysore. The ‘Power Star’ passed away on October 29, 2021.
