In an interim relief for tourist bus owners, the Transport Department has allotted time to change to colour of the buses to white, which is only applicable to the buses tested after June 1. However, it will be mandatory for other buses with nearing test dates to adhere to the new colour code, said Transport Commissioner S Sreejith.
The move comes in the wake of complaints lodged by bus owners pointing out the financial difficulty in implementing the code within a short notice.
Meanwhile, the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has issued 31 new directions for inspection of tourist buses. The permit of any bus that violates guidelines will be revoked.
