Thoothukudi Sathankulam Special Sub Inspector Podurai (56) has succumbed to death due to Covid 19. He was arrested in connection with the custodial death of father – son duo Jeyaraj – Benicks. It was in the early hours of Monday that his death was confirmed by the doctors. It was on July 5th that he got arrested in connection with the case. He was under remand in Madurai Central Jail.
Apart from Poldurai, a total of four other police officers were arrested in connection with the custodial death of Jeyaraj and Benicks. On July 24th, Polraj was confirmed of having contracted Covid. Later, he was admitted to the government hospital in Madurai. It is reported that Poldurai has been suffering from heart disease and diabetes.
