Malayali journalist Siddique Kappan, who has been in jail for more than 2 years after being arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police, has also been granted bail in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case. Lucknow High Court granted bail. The Supreme Court had granted bail to Capan on September 9 in the UAPA case. But he was not released from jail as he was not granted bail in the ED case. After the High Court grants bail, release from prison is possible.
Kappan was arrested on October 6, 2020 while traveling to Hathras, where a Dalit girl was raped and killed in UP. After the Mathura Court and Allahabad High Court denied him bail in the UAPA case, he approached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court granted bail on the grounds that the evidence found by the UP Police was insufficient. After the Lucknow District Court denied bail in the ED case, the High Court was approached.
