Sony has decided to join the ‘Make in India’ campaign, and the company’s Indian arm – Sony India has taken a significant decision. In an attempt to tackle the government’s decision to increase taxes on overseas products, Sony India will now concentrate on manufacturing smartphones and televisions in India. Though the company has not finalized about its future plans, it believed that the company might start setting up plants in India.
Right now, Sony is functioning with third party manufacturers, which according to some sources, might get expanded by the company, as an alternate option to setting up new plants. Earlier, government has increased the import duties on completely built television sets and smartphones to 20 percent.
