In a big crackdown, police seized 1400 litres of spirit in Palakkad’s Kozhinjampara on Tuesday. Three people, including the secretary of the fifth mile branch of the CPIM, were arrested with 1400 liters of spirit.
Based on the secret information received by the Excise, 800 liters of spirit was found in 25 cans buried in a coconut grove during the inspection at Vannamada. In connection with the incident, CPIM 5th mile branch secretary V. Kannan and Prabhu, a native of Vannamada, were arrested.
17 more cans were found in after a detailed questioning here. The spirit was hidden inside a haystack in the garden owned by Vinesh, a native of Kodungallur. Excise also recorded his arrest.
The spirit was stored in a total of 42 cans. The primary conclusion is that they were kept to make toddy. Excise is investigating where the accused got the spirit from.
