CM announces the first open university in Kerala named after Sree Narayana Guru. The Open University will come into existence on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti. The new university will be headquartered in Kollam, the ancient port city of Kerala.
The Open University will be launched by integrating the existing four university distance education systems. Anyone of any age can learn. Those who are unable to complete the course will be awarded a Diploma Certificate based on their previous studies.
The university will feature online classes of national and international teachers and experts. The labs and other infrastructure of government-aided colleges will be utilized for the new university. In addition to the traditional courses, skill development courses will also be conducted. The CM said that this would be the beginning of a big change in the field of popularization of education.
