Thiruvananthapuram: Strong winds are expected from the northwesterly speed of 45 to 55 km / h on the coast of Kerala and Lakshadweep. Strong winds are possible in the Kanyakumari region and Mannar Bay at speeds of 65 to 75 km / h. Considering this, fishermen are advised not to go to sea.

The Meteorological Department has warned that due to the impact of Hurricane Um-pun, caution must be adhered to.

The Meteorological Department had earlier announced that thunderstorms and strong winds could be expected across the state from May 18 to May 22. Yellow Alarm is in the districts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram.

The disaster management authority has advised the public and concerned people to be vigilant when thunderstorms and strong winds persist in Kerala.

According to the Central Meteorological Department, heavy rains and strong winds (gusty winds, speeds of 30 to 40 km / h) are likely to continue till May 22.

Fishermen engaged in fishing should be especially careful not to get thunderstorms.

Fishing in small boats may increase the risk of being in the boat during thunderstorms. Therefore it is advisable to sit during this time. Those who are fishing on boats should avoid getting down on deck during thunderstorms. It should be safe inside.

Fishermen’s communications equipment should be made safe during thunderstorms.

General alert proposals for strong winds

Strong winds can also cause accidents when trunks fall off and the shoots fall off. Whenever there is wind and rain, it should not be under any tree. Do not park your vehicle under a tree. Avoid standing on the terrace of the house.
Unstable advertising boards, electric posts, and flags can also cause trunks to be strengthened or unloaded when there is no wind or rain. It should not be parked at or near the park during the rainy season.
Those residing in houses with tile, sheets, or unoccupied roofs should contact the authorities (number 1077) in advance and return to safe buildings as they require. Local Self Government, Revenue Officers and Representatives should take the initiative to relocate these people identified by the disaster mitigation plan to the relief camps in accordance with the Kovid 19 protocol.
The windows and doors of the houses should be closed when the wind starts to blow. Avoid standing near windows and doors.
Equipment and other materials that may be affected by wind should be tied to a rope, such as a ladder leaning against the wall.
When winds and rain are strong, power lines and posts are more likely to break. In case of any such accident, please inform the KSEB’s 1912 Control Room or the District Disaster Relief Authority’s Control Room at 1077. Avoid crash-correction during winds and only after winds and rain have ceased. Publicly cooperate with KSEB staff. Do not do such repair work directly in public.
Those who go to work early in the morning, such as newspaper and milk suppliers, must exercise special caution. You should try to ensure that the power lines do not break down during flooding. If any danger is suspected, you should inform the Control Room and ensure that there is no danger.
Ensure that the power lines crossing the farm are safe before landing.
People who work in construction must stop working when the wind and rain are strong and move to a safer place.
Pruning of deadly branches of trees in the home garden should be done. Inform the concerned Local Authority Secretary of the danger of the dangerous trees in the pub
