Swapna Suresh, who is believed to be the main culprit in the incident, attempted to smuggle gold through diplomatic baggage has been dismissed from state IT department. Swapna Suresh, a former employee of the United Arab Emirates Consulate, was working as the operations manager under the state IT department.
It is reported that Swapna Suresh is absconding after her involvement in the gold smuggling has been confirmed by customs team. It is believed that she has some high level connections. It is reported that Swapna Suresh is likely to be charged with another case currently being investigated by the crime branch. Investigations are underway into the allegation that the complainant made a false complaint against the officer while she was working at Air India. The Crime Branch said it was investigating the case.
It was a day ago, 30 kg of gold was seized from the diplomatic baggage came in the name of food at Trivandrum airport. One person named Sarith was arrested in connection with the incident. It is learned that Sarith had received several baggage arriving at the airport in the name of the Consulate. According to reports, Sarith & Swapna received as much as Rs 25 lakh in a transaction. There are also reports that the duo had smuggled gold together several times earlier.
