Kasaragod’s new hope, Tata Covid Hospital’s pre-fabricated units for the construction, will begin arriving this week. The units that have completed construction at Tata’s steel plants will be brought to Chattanchal and placed in the pedestal built here. One unit can carry 5 beds each. Five containers have arrived in Bengaluru but are waiting for the road to be completed. The district administration is in the process of preparing the land for the hospital and KSEB is working on electricity works. Steps are also being made to provide drinking water at the hospital. According to TATA group the hospital will become a reality by next month (June 2020).
There will be a total of 128 units which consists of 5 beds per unit. The number of beds can be adjusted as needed and can be used for other purposes such as x-ray room. Due to space constraints, there will be 3 buildings in the first phase. There are 58 units in the first building, 42 in the second, and 26 in the third. Each unit will have its own bio-digesters (sanitation tanks), 2000 liter over head water tank and air condition systems.
Construction of an 850 meter road with 20 meters wide from Thekkil to Chattanchal is going on. Tata Group will build a 22 feet wide road connecting all three buildings of the hospital.
