A tempo accidentally overturned after a landslide in Puthukkudi near Kundala on Saturday evening. As rain continues to lash in the area, the mud fell on the tempo that was coming from Vadakara.
The van reportedly landed on an adjacent tea garden and the driver is suspected to be trapped. All other commuters are safe and had only minor injuries, said sources.
The rescue operations are underway and police officials from Mattupetty have rushed to the spot. Idukki district is on red alert, but downpour in the region is not high.
Idukki district is on orange alert today. Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts are on yellow alert.
