The decision on whether to continue the lockdown restrictions in the state will be taken after examining the spread of the disease in the coming days. The cabinet meeting on Wednesday discussed the issue. The general opinion of the ministers is that the lockdown will have to be extended if the disease rate continues as it is now. It is hoped that some concessions will be allowed in districts where the disease is less prevalent.
The lockdown has been announced until the 30th. It is a triple lockdown in Malappuram district. Currently, more than 25,000 people are diagnosed with the disease on most days. The general assessment is that the lockdown cannot be avoided overnight. The average rate for those diagnosed in the past week is 22.2 percent. But in districts with high number of patients, the confirmation rate is above 25 per cent.
