Bangalore native Rupesh Bee N is one of the well-known distributors in overseas distribution, a very important part of the film industry. He worked mainly in Kannada films. He has been running a distribution company since 2005 and has distributed more than 150 films. In Malayalam, he has distributed more than thirty Malayalam movies like Premam, Action Hero Biju, Charlie in countries like Australia and New Zealand.
In 2020, his life was turned upside down. A young woman who was working as an associate of Rupesh came forward with a complaint stating that she was sexually assaulted by Rupesh and was a victim of fraud, following which Rupesh was arrested. Many people who were doing regular distribution deals later withdrew from their dealings with Rupesh.
Rupesh and the woman were at loggerheads over the financial dealings of a failed film. Not being able to pay the profit share of the film made the young woman angry. Then the woman told all other investors that Rupesh was cheating on her. It was found that Rupesh was not in the country on the date given by the woman, stating that the incident in question took place in Bangalore. Within six months, the police submitted a B report and the court accepted the report. The court ruled in his favor and Rupesh demanded a compensation of Rs 1 Crore for the hardships caused by the woman’s fraudulent misrepresentation. Rupesh himself tells about the hardships he suffered due to such false accusations in the professional field and in his own family. Similar incidents have been happening in Malayalam cinema in recent times. Rupesh also says that the truth should be brought out through a thorough investigation and the criminals and those who abuse the law should be punished.
