The Thoothukudi twin custody murder case is progressing quite swiftly as four police officers were arrested in connection with the case. The accused have all been charged with murder. One Inspector, one SI and two policemen were arrested, while one among the accused, Sathankulam police station SI Raghu Ganesh, was already arrested yesterday. Incidentally, the locals have celebrated their arrests with firecrackers.

Earlier the murder of two common men, Jayarajan and his son Benix, have created quite a lot of uproar in the society as the public as well as the court condemning the incident. The father – son duo were arrested for allegedly opening a mobile phone shop in violation of the lockdown norms. Subsequently, they got killed under custody. While observing the case, the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court stated that there was a prima facie evidence to prove the guilty of policemen.

Subsequently, the woman constable at the Sathankulam station too had recorded statements against the police officers.  According to the statement made by her, the father – son duo were subject to brutal assault by the policemen using a lathi. Reportedly, there was bloodstain on the lathi and the table. It must be said that the policewoman made her statements against her colleagues, in spite of receiving threats from op officials. Until the CBI takes over the investigation, the CBCID will continue to investigate the case.
