Passenger caught with gold worth Rs 35 lakh smuggled through Karipur airport. Mustafa (30), a native of Tirur who came from Dubai, was arrested by the police outside the airport. 636 grams of gold hidden in mixed form was also found in his body.
Mustafa reached Karipur on an Air India Express flight from Dubai at 7.30 am on Wednesday. He came out after the customs inspection and was taken into custody by the police on the basis of secret information.
In the questioning, the young man replied that he had no gold in his hand. The luggage was searched but no gold was found. After being taken to the hospital, it was found that the gold mixture was hidden in three capsules in the X-ray examination.
Police said efforts are on to trace the gang behind the gold smuggling and the seized gold will be submitted to the court. A detailed report will also be submitted to Customs for further investigation. This is the 88th case of gold smuggling caught by the police outside the Karipur airport. In the past few days, the police had arrested the women who smuggled gold and the robbery gang who came to steal the gold.
