In a shocking instance, several of the top twitter accounts were subject to hacking. The official Twitter accounts of Apple, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, former US President Barack Obama and several others were hacked by scammers, who tried to fool people and led them into sending investing in the cryptocurrency bitcoin. The attack, considering the massive scale at which it is done, has forced Twitter to look seriously into the flaws of the micro blogging platforms security vulnerabilities.
Incidentally, the bogus tweet asked people to invest $1,000 in bitcoin, in return of which they would be rewarded twice the amount that they invested. On the other hand, the co – founder of Gemini Cryptocurrency Exchange, Cameron Winklevoss warned that this was a scam and asked people to not follow it.
While responding to the incident, officials maintained that they are investigating and would be taking steps to fix it. Several top accounts, upon knowing of that the accounts were hacked, locked down the hacked account and removed the bogus tweet. Meanwhile, Twitter officials informed that they have disabled the official twitter accounts, as a result of which the handlers of the official accounts, would not be able to access them.
