The University Grants Commission (UGC) has informed that it has granted full autonomy status for 62 higher educational institutes. It was after the meeting taken place between the UGC board members, which it has reached in on the decision. Out of the total 62 institutes, five are Central Universities, 21 are State Universities, 26 are Private Universities and 10 are Colleges.
Terming the decision of UGC as historic, Union Human Resource Development Minister, lauded the institutes, which bagged the status. It was after crossing the NAAC benchmark score of 3.26, which the institutes were granted full autonomous status. The Central Universities which were granted the status are: JNU, AMU, BHU, University of Hyderabad and EFLU.
