Actor Mammootty on Saturday spoke to media after paying his last respects to veteran scriptwriter John Paul at Lissie hospital, Ernakulam. John Paul, 71, passed away in the afternoon, who was undergoing treatment for over two months.
Mammootty said, “John Paul’s demise was totally unexpected. I had visited him and thought he would come back. It is a great loss to the Malayalam cinema and film literature.”

The actor expressed his condolences to John Paul’s family at the hospital. The veteran screenwriter was undergoing treatment for kidney disease. He breathed his last at around 1 pm today.
Earlier today, other stars including Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Innocent and Kunchacko Boban also recalled their experiences with John Paul and paid tributes to him.
John Paul had written screenplays for numerous popular movies starring Mohanlal and Mammootty in the 1980s and 1990s. He had scripted several hit films such as ‘Kathodu Kathoram’, ‘Kattathe Kilikkoodu’, ‘Ina’, ‘Unnikale Oru Kadha Parayam’, ‘Oru Minnaminunginte Nurunguvettam’, ‘Athirathram’, ‘Keli’, ‘Chamayam’, ‘Oru Yathra Mozhi’, ‘Kodiyettam’ and ‘Yathra’.
