Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) has informed that it would no longer provide the Wikipedia Zero Programme. Announcing the same through their blogpost, WMF mentioned that their Wikipedia Zero Programme was about to come to an end in 2018. Commenting on the same, WMF stated that Wikipedia Zero had witnessed a drop in interest outside the US and Europe. The Wikipedia Zero Programme offers free service on mobile platforms in developing countries.
However, WMF further stated that they would address the issue of spreading free knowledge, by means of forging new partnerships. The Foundation has been performing exceedingly well in providing free access to more than 800 million people worldwide.
