An all-round performance by Hardik Pandya and cameos by Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma’s Team India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in their tournament opener in the Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

Pandya took three wickets and scored 33 runs to help India take the revenge. Former India captain and number three batsman Virat Kohli showed a glimpse of form with 35 runs in 34 balls with the help of three boundaries and a four.

Chasing 148, India lost KL Rahul for a duck in the very first over. After this, Virat Kohli (35) anchored the innings and formed a 49-run stand with skipper Rohit Sharma (12), who largely struggled at the other end. Twin strikes from Mohammed Nawaz, who took Sharma and Kohli’s wickets restricted India to 3/53.

Pandya was adjudged as ‘Man of the Match’ for his all-round performance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Indian Cricket team for their victory against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2022. PM Modi said that the team has displayed superb skill and grit.

PM Modi tweeted, “#TeamIndia put up a spectacular all-round performance in today’s #AsiaCup2022 match. The team has displayed superb skill and grit. Congratulations to them on the victory.”
