The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will kick-off today with the opening match between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and 2021 runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). At the same time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are set to felicitate Tokyo Olympics medallists Neeraj Chopra, Bajrang Punia, Ravi Dhaiya and Lovlina Borgohain.
India contingent won six medals in the Tokyo Olympics last year and Indian cricket board will facilitate them for their remarkable achievement. According to the InsideSport website, Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra is expected to attend the ceremony and will receive a reward of Rs 1 crore from the BCCI.
However, this is the fourth year that the BCCI has called off the gala celebrations. In 2019, it was cancelled due to Pulwama attack. In 2020 and 2021, the BCCI again called off the ceremony due to COVID-19 pandemic.
