The figures of the amount spent by various Vice Chancellors of Kerala to file a case against Governor Arif Muhammad Khan are out. But none of them spent this amount from their own pocket. They have spent all this amount from people’s tax money. The vice chancellors during the government led by Pinarayi Vijayan government are doing such unnecessary extravagance in a situation where the people are struggling due to price rise.
They have spent 1 crore 13 lakh rupees to conduct the case. They have spent a huge amount of money from the university fund to file a personal case. The governor had revoked the appointment of various vice-chancellors. They approached the High Court and then the Supreme Court to question this. It was on this item that the Vice Chancellors spent such a huge sum.
Minister R. Bindu disclosed the amount used from the university fund for this purpose in the Assembly. Doctor Gopinath Ravindran, who was the Vice Chancellor of Kannur, spent Rs 69 lakhs. Similarly, Kufos Vice Chancellor Ruchi John spent Rs 36 lakh. Dr. MS Rajashree, who was the Vice-Chancellor of the Technical University, spent Rs. Dr. KN Madhusudhanan, who was the vice chancellor of Calicut, spent Rs 77,500. Similarly Dr V Anilkumar who was the Vice Chancellor of Malayalam University spent Rs.
Similarly, Dr. Mubarak Pasha, who was the vice-chancellor of Sree Narayana Open University, spent Rs.53,000. Apart from this, the appointment of KK Rajesh’s wife Priya Varghese, who is the Chief Minister’s private secretary, as an associate professor has become controversial in a big way. Eight lakh rupees have been spent from the university fund to conduct the case related to this. The rule states that government officials have to bear the court expenses from their own pockets. It is considered illegal to take money from university funds to challenge the governor’s appointment. Meanwhile, the Save University campaign has petitioned the Chief Minister and the Governor demanding that this amount be collected from the vice-chancellors or the syndicate members.
